does the dsl speed that i have hooked to my desk top have any thing to do with my wifi speed on my lap top??? what im pretty much asking is if i up my dsl speed will it up the wifi speed thank

No, they're completely unrelated. It's important to realise that so you don't get ripped off by marketing people.
The only time when you would want to think about those factors would be if you had, say, VDSL or something and it was actually faster than the speed of your WiFi router or NIC. As you know, your connection to the Internet is only as fast as the slowest link, so if you had 24Mbps VDSL but only a 12Mbps WiFi NIC, then you could never get any faster than 12Mbps (probably even less though) between your NIC and router.

No. The two are independent. Your wi-fi speed is the speed of your home network, on your side of the router/internet modem. It effects the speed of transfers from one computer to another on your home network. WiFi speeds are typically 54 to 100 mbits/sec depending on your router type (G or N).
DSL speed is the speed of the connection from your house to the internet. Typical DSL speeds are 1 to 6 mbits/sec, FAR slower than your home network's speed.
If you are downloading or uploading stuff from the internet, the DSL speed is the controlling factor. Upping your wifi speed will have no effect on internet transfer speed.
