How do you get a proxy server to work with videos?

when i use proxy servers videos don't play! Why?

Becuase the Video probably uses Adobe Flash, which is a binary excutable. It cannot be proxied/parsed threw a web--based proxy. The when you try to view the video threw the proxy, the flash player will actually be calling the video directly from the website not threw the proxy.

Now some web-based proxies work with Youtube or metacafe etc becuase they site specific plugins to make it work.



There is also another script called CGIproxy, the newest version released a few months ago has limited ability to parse/proxy threw flash objects in a page, but as I said its ver limited. Most proxy sites won't be running this script however becuase it used too much CPU on the server.



Next up is Socks Proxies which work with any website, (inslcuidng flash and anything else) These are just IP addresses you plug into connection settings of your browser or whatever you have, but these are hard to find and usually have to bought. (not free)

Every site uses different criteria for running videos. This makes it very difficult for proxies to consistantly show videos on different sites.



Also make sure that you your proxy is set up to accept scripts and cookies!

You need one that will allow you to adjust the settings. If you try this one it is set to work on You Tube, but it usually will not show google adds on sites until you uncheck the "Encode URL".



Just keep playing with the setting until you get it to work for the site you are visiting. Hope it helps
