It is so-called Remote control. There are lots of such applications such as VNC, MS termial service (RDC, remote desktop connection)and PC-anywhere.

The most generally being used is VNC and MS termial service. But unfortunately, It only works within LAN or the machine with a public IP address. Imaging what If you work at home or somewhere outside office where you are going to use remote control to some machines in office LAN? There are couple methods you can make it.

>By VPN (Virtual Private Network). But when you get your home computer connected, there may have security risk because your home computer may have office-banned softwares installed.

>Build a terminal service on one of machine in the office LAN; and on the router, forward the ports the terminal service using to the machine. In that way, the terminal server acts like a bridge. Computers outside the LAN get to the server first, and from the terminal server you can go any machines in the LAN..

>Use Remote control management tool, like Kaseya remote control. Most of remote control toos, such as VNC, MS terminal service, K-VNC,PAdmin and PC-anywhere, are integrated in the management tool. It is easier way to visit any machie agent installed over the world from wherever you have internet access. Anyone interested in it just contact me.

You can use RealVNC to control a PC or Windows RDP.

Just remember that if you are going to snoop around your employees computers, even if they are your property and they are "on the clock", YOU SHOULD POST A NOTICE WARNING THEM that the PCs are being MONITORED and are subject to "revision/inspection" at any given time.

That will cover you in case any legal actions come up, be it by them, by you or by the law.

It's not legal to access anyone's personal files, e-mails without notice.

You can use this somewhere in the job policy specifiying Computer Use (when, what, why and why not)

If its on the policy and posted that can't object to monitoring.

You can also do SNMP monitoring. It is a service that may not be installed on your existing PC's. Check it out.

www.logmein.com is one I use for assisting customers with their PC problems.

This isn't hidden though, you can purchase software which operate in stealth mode (you can monitor remotely & silently) I am not sure of any free programs.

The best software which you can get it from Logmein.com, but its not a freeware, quite costly, you can use a trial version for 1 month. The very best software is from teamviewer.com, freeware, very easy to use, but its not for commercial purpose. If you have a genuine windows OS, you can try netmeeting, which is Microsoft default program, installed in your PC.

You need monitoring software. Spector Pro is fantastic and been around forever. It's very easy to install, great reporting options, flags to warn you if certain words are typed and the best thing, it will email you reports at your specified times.

They have a business version also.

Check it out, TheParentsEdge.com talks about it more in the monitoring section.

I uses the very basic version on my kids computer to monitor myspace usage etc.. it's fantastic and so easy to use.
