Hi Merc.

I have not heard of this news yet, With my IPS being hughsnet satlite I am allowed only 200 MB in any 24 hour period, If I exeed that 200 MB threshold they invoke a slow mode upon me for a 24 hour period, This slow mode is supposed to be as fast as dial up but the truth is it is a no speed mode and can take 10 minutes to change a page, If I was to be limited to 5 GB in a month and in that area that it is happening then yes I would be screaming foul all the way to the top,

People who sign up to a limited download service are already liable to this restriction. Some ISPs charge extra, some slow the service. Since the people who have signed up tend to not pay the extra charges, and keep complaining about the speed, instead of signing up to an unlimited account, the ISPs are now looking to use this method. This is in the contract.

While StonedGorilla is right, the last place I lived had no other option but Time Warner. Fortunately I don't live there anymore but it's still a scary thought that the only service provider is going to create packages of usage rates just like cell phone companies do.

Hopefully there will be enough backlash/competitors that this will not go in full-effect.

They wont start doing it until they install software to measure the usage next year.

But ....this is teh fastest way to lose all your customers, all it take is a few lawsuits to bring to attention of public and soon they will have no customers left.

5Gb a month is a joke, most customers I know uses more than that a week, only a very few stay below 5GB.

Throttling is nothing new. If you don't like it, go with a different ISP.
