router configuration issue?

so i have a trendnet tew-432brp router. I've tried using the driver disc that came with the product but it was a failure. The setup is very simple and has steps. When i reach a step where it says configuring router, then checking internet connection, there is no connection detected. I exit the setup and it is a complete failure. I looked on their website and found a ip browser for the router that is an alternative way to configuring. I've tried using it but still fail to configure my router. I think i'm doing something wrong. Oh and im using at&t hi-speed internet with a motorola 2210 modem.

anyone with this same router should know.

thanks

As the previous answer suggests, be sure all connections are correct, especially the connection between modem and router.

In the router configuration, be sure that it is setup for PPPoE or my internet connection requires authentication (or login or similar) Fill in the user name and password that you use for your at&t connection.

This is assuming it is DSL which im pretty sure it is, since it is at&t. Consider your router is a computer and it needs to authenticate with your ISP in order to connect.

Hope this helps some.

Hi Joe:

From your description it sounds like the connection between the router and the Motorola 2210 isn't working.

These may seem overly obvious:

1. Is the router connected directly to the modem via a CAT5e or CAT6 Ethernet patch cable from the WAN port of the router (typically blue in color) to the modem?

2. Have you pulled the power connection or turned off the modem for 30-45 seconds since you connected the modem to the router?

3. Once you have tried or verified one and two, log back into the router via the web interface and see that all is well to the router. If it's still not working, attempt connecting the modem directly to your computer again. IF that works be sure you power off the modem for 30-45 seconds again and disconnect it from your computer, reconnect it to the router and then apply power to the modem again.

Hope this Helps, feel free to update your question with details if you try these and it does not fix your issue.

Not sure if this will help you, but when I tried to hook-up my new router I remember these few tips helped me:

1. Make sure you turn the router off completely and allow it to totally reset.

2. Make sure your firewall software or virus-protection software is turned off when configuring and after you get your connection allow the software to self configure to the router.

3. Make sure you check compatibiliy of your firewall /anti-virus to the router

4. Make sure that once you have connection you copy your settings for any other computer that you are going to connect to the network.

Again, not sure if these will help you but it was worth a shot to let you know them.

Best of luck.
