Installation guide for the 2Wire ADSL modem/WiFi router with Vista (wireless installation)

First, connect the supplied power adaptor to the POWER port on the 2Wire ADSL modem/WiFi router, and plug it into a power outlet (1).

Next, connect your ADSL phone cable to your ADSL filter, and also to the PHONE LINE port on the 2Wire ADSL modem/WiFi router(2). The DSL light will turn solid green (this can take up to 10 minutes, so be patient).

Next, set your WiFi-enabled computer (the picture at (3) shows a laptop with a wireless card, but it you can use a laptop with WiFi built-in, or a desktop with a WiFi card) to get an IP address from the 2Wire ADSL modem/WiFi router via DHCP, see below:

1. Click Windows icon (bottom left on taskbar), then 'Control Panel', then click 'Network and Internet'.

2. Under the subheading 'Network and sharing center', click 'View network status and tasks'.

3. On the left on side, click 'Manage wireless networks'.

4. Click 'Adapter properties'.

5. Select 'Obtain an IP address automatically' and 'Obtain DNS server automatically'.

6. Click 'OK' twice.

7. Restart your computer

Now, to connect to the 2Wire ADSL modem/WiFi router:

1. Click Windows icon (bottom left on taskbar), then 'Settings', then click 'Control Panel'.

2. Under the Subheading 'Network and sharing center', click 'View network status and tasks'.

3. On the left on side, click 'Manage wireless networks'.

4. Another window will pop up - click 'Add'

5. Another window will pop up - click 'Add a network that is in range of this computer':

6. Select the SSID 2WIRExxx and click 'Connect':

7. A network key will be requested - type this key into the box and click 'Connect'. This key is written on the base of the 2Wire ADSL modem/WiFi router, on a sticker, below the barcode. It's a 10-digit number between [] brackets. Click here if you're having trouble finding the network key:

8. The window will then say "Successfully connected to 2WIRExxx"

9. Close that window. You're now connected!

10. The Network and Sharing Centre shows the Wireless Network Connection. You can manage this connection from this centre (view status, signal strength, disconnect etc.):

When you've successfully connected to the 2Wire ADSL modem/WiFi router, you need to log into its configuration page to complete the installation and connect to the Internet.

Open a web browser, and type 192.168.1.254 into the address bar, and hit enter:

You're now connected to the 2Wire ADSL modem/WiFi router - follow the wizard to connect to your ADSL service.

When prompted for a 20-digit keycode from the router's configuration screen, please use this keycode for PPPoA connection, suitable for almost all UK ADSL service providers (Tiscali, TalkTalk, BT, Orange etc.): 52EU-2374-WHE2-22AZ-B2BS

To complete the installation, you'll need the username and password your ISP supplied to you when signed up for their service.

quite you likely noted the placement your self. You suggested the computing device connects to each of the unsecured networks contained in the community and on the library. the major note develop into unsecured. i think your router at living house has been suited configured with protection and the protection characteristic of the router is blockading the get entry to because that's designed to do. undergo in recommendations that the protection effective elements keep freeloaders and hackers off it quite is what you want to do. basically because your associates do not implement protection does not mean you mustn't (in the journey that they go away their doorways unlocked even as they go away does this mean you should also go away doorways unlocked?). Now to resolve your get entry to difficulty - First you want to make certain what type of protection develop into applied on your router. Encryption, encryption style (WEP, WPA, WPA2), preshare key, and MAC handle verification are regularly occurring protection on low end living house grade routers. See what has been activated. you're able to configure the lap authentic prompt for an analogous encryption, contain the preshare key (password) if suited and if the MAC handle verificaiton is invoked you're able to furnish your prompt laptop's prompt LAN port's MAC handle contained in the itemizing of authorized MAC addresses on the router. (you are able to be certain the prompt lan port's MAC handle by technique of establishing command prompt (commence, run - style in cmd and hit enter) and in command prompt, on the prompt style in "ipconfig /all" and hit enter. it is going to coach all connections (stressed and prompt), ip addresses, and MAC addresses (which it calls actual handle). MAC addresses are 12 characters lengthy, and typically displayed with a : between pairs of characters.

Your question is not specific enough. "Information" can include things as varied as what color it is (just look at it) or how to upgrade the firmware. I would start by physically locating it, determining the model, and accessing the manuals for it or accessing them online at 2wire.com
