Question:
Wireless network won't connect automatically?

I have a wireless network in my flat. My old PC doesn't connect automatically to the network, neither does my new one (they both use the same USB wireless adaptor because I'm too cheap to go out and buy another) but my laptop, which has it's own Wireless adaptor, connects fine.

I tried recreating the wireless connection and resetting the router but nothing has worked. The connection just won't automatically connect unless I do a repair. Could it be a problem with the wireless adaptor do you think?

What operating system are you using?

In XP -

Open your "all network connections"

Highlight the wireless adapter and right click it and choose properties.

Click on the "wireless network" tab

Highlight the name (SSID) of your home network, and click Properties.

Click on the Connection tab.

Check the box that says "connect when this network is in range"

click OK, OK and then close the network connection screen

good luck

If you are removing the USB adapter and shuffling it back and forth - your PC may not "like" the fact that it disappears.

If it was your adaptor, when you do a repair it still will not connect, but since it works with a repair then it obviously works. Do you have your machines setup to automatically get an ip address from your router through DHCP or are you using static addresses for each machine.

It sounds like the problem is that your machines are not requesting an address until you do a repair.

Try going into the network settings on both devices. You can find all those settings in the control panel.

It could be a hardware thing, maybe the router or adapter is automatically set to do that.

If you can do it manually it's okay too. If its a big problem get a technition, should take a few seconds for them.

I had that problem. It was irritating as poop. In my "network and sharing center", I had my wireless network set up to connect automatically. But, the computer simply would not connect automatically to the wireless network.

I fixed this by going into my wireless adapter's software program and manually adding my wireless network into that program.

I had the problem and the only solution that works for real is to get a stronger router. I was explained to by someone that its like a funnel and the router is asking whether it should provide you with the internet and when you turn it on that means yes, but when the router is strong it does it automatically. Believe me this is after trying EVERYTHING - a week on the phone with different techs, a genius appointment and endless research!

dont turn them on at the same time...modem first and wait for it to connect and then power on your router

I had the same problem after my daughter got frustrated and slid her hands across the keyboard.... grrr...

I found this to work.

Hold Fn key and hit the F2 button after you reboot the system. This turned on wifi and wireless came on automatically after that on reboots.

Problems was solved.

Hope this works.
