So I guess what I've been doing was running a live linux CD. lol Well I knew how to install linux but the computer I'm using freezes up at one part of the installation. (When the desktop shows up and I click that disc on the desktop) How long does it take for all of thi to be said and done? I'm using Linux Mint or trying to install it, and it freezes at the "It would be best if you have this much memory, are connected to the internet, etc.)

I do not us Mint...But I guess either you could press continue (if it is there) or you may need some more RAM.

It may take some time as you are running live which is slower.

Okay, thanks for the followup. Mint is a variety of Ubuntu so what was said earlier isn't that far off.

So it's freezing up, or is it just taking awhile to load stuff? (Cursor still move?) Installing Mint from the live CD should take about ten minutes, though I couldn't speak on the wait time if it's planning out how to do the installation and gathering the needed files (I'm assuming up to 5 minutes, from my work with OpenSUSE on my computer and installing Ubuntu to a USB drive).

So have some patience... boot your disk, when the desktop is completely ready start the installation, and give it a few minutes to figure out the scripting procedure. If your cursor doesn't move, no hard drive activity at all, or other signs it truly is locked rather than just thinking... issues. You might want to download a different distro; it just occurred to me that while Mint goes directly to the desktop, regular Ubuntu *asks* whether you want to install to the hard drive (as a real OS or as an accompanyment within Windows) or run from the disk.

well how long did you wait? i know (for me atleast) when i for example install windows 7 on my computer the first time i had to wat up to 10 mins before it actelly got anywhere so i could start choosing lang and similar

as i havent used linux for ages im not sure exactly how it looks today

what you could try ofc is wait a while see if that helps

redownload it (if your using a cd try and boot from a USb stick instead, they got a guide for it atleast for ubuntu, should be the same for linux mint)

remove any things you dont need during the installation (usb devices and such

That's the very beginning of the installation, and it depends on your machine. I'd give it at least 10min to rule out your computer being slow. You can also pick failsafe mode at boot.

multiple the newer BIOSes do no longer hardship to place the CD force in the boot order for some reason. purely flow into your BIOS settings and redo the boot order so it tests the CD force first.
