I am thinking about switching from a Comcast cable connection (internet) to Verizon High speed internet. The speed is 768Kbps. How does this compare to Comcast? Am I going to be frustrated with the speed or will I even notice the difference? Thanks...J

for dsl, that is about the lowest speed they will go. If you are on dialup, it will be about 10-12 times faster, if you currently have broadband service, more than likely it will be a downgrade in service. The normal dsl service where I live is 3 mpbs, and if fios is available, you can attain up to 15mbps you will be getting .768 mbps to put it simply. Cable service is usually faster, but they have a lower band of service that matches the dsl offering, then 3, 7, 10, 15, and for business class, 20 mpbs available.

I had it and if you have never had faster it will be fine. However if you ever use a faster connection it will seem really slow. It is the cheapest plan for a reason. It will also depend on what Comcast's speed was. If it was the same or like 1 Mb, you probably won't notice it. If it was a 2Mb connection you might notice it but can probably deal with it. However if it was 3Mb or higher, you will probably not like how slow it will seem. 768Kb is the slowest connection DSL does.

768 is really slow in comparison.. I suspect your Comcast is 5meg or 5000kbs. Most DSL these days is 3mbs or above!

What that means is you are simply toooo far from the telco office for good DSL speeds

700 mb file at 768 kbps is a little under 2.5 hrs

700 mb at comcast ish speed about 12 minutes

700 mb at cablevision boost speed about 2.5 minutes

With 768Kbps you could take a shower, shave, get dressed and make a Dagwood Sandwich before your browser ever loads. Go for a few bucks more before we read about throwing your computer out a window and hitting someone.

Alright, 768 Kbps is very slow. If this iscomcast I highly reccommend switching to Verizon. Comcast is ripping you off there. I am also switching to verizon. :)

You should only get Verizon because with "CABLE" ever one share the same bandwidth and you are more likely to get hack and some viruses. yes it is vary slow. that is when high speed first came out. Also you get a vary good deal if you get TV phone cell phone and Internet all in one about $110

a month.
