Ideally, you should use this command with Active Directory, where you are the domain administrator. Since I'm sure you don't have AD on your home network, this method is going to be tempermental at best. Try running an elevated command prompt, make sure the username and password you use correspond to an administrator account on the target computer. If all else fails, you could set up a scheduled task on the machine to shut it down at some time, or enable remote desktop and log in while your friend is using it, which should more or less have the same effect. You could even put the computer into something akin to a remote assistance session before they arrive, and manipulate it while they're sitting at the keyboard.

Also @ Colinc: As far as I know, this is not illegal in any way when you own the computer in question. It is yours to do with as you please. Neither can it damage the OS, as this command initiates a graceful shutdown, same as if you were logged into the console.

You can not do any of this remotely unless he has opened up the services in his security policies. And anyone would be mad to do this as it is then making the machine wide open to hacker attacks that no anti-spyware/virus or firewall can stop. Also consider it is illegal, even as a joke to interfere with someone else's use of a machine regardless of friend, family or work colleague, as it can cause data losses or even destroy the system. If you run that command during a large Windows update and it dumps part of a download, it can totally trash the operating system. Also could result in an incomplete save of critical files causing corruption of data. and if it results in any expense on the other party, you would be liable for these cost, on top of the fines in the thousands and possible prison time. Up to 20 years prison. You would be treated as just another illegal hacker.

Alaykumissalaaaaam. the least confusing way is to apply distant administration utility, regular as Radmin. you could acquire a unfastened trial of the utility. basically try googlin for it. deploy the server app in each computers you prefer to regulate remotely, then deploy the viewer app interior the pc you're utilising. this could be a good device for community directors. do basically not use it for annoying people on your community.
