Question:
How do I go into my routers' web interface?
2013-03-29 07:22:53 UTC
I'm trying to make a Static IP, but I don't understand. I know that I must go into Run -> cmd -> ipconfig /all. I looked at my Default Gateway and it reads 98.204.148.1 which is not the Default Gateway everyone says it's supposed to be (192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.0). I put the Gateway, 98.204.148.1, in the browsers' search bar. I just come up with an error stating Google Chrome could not connect to this. I've tried different browsers as well. I don't understand what's going on.

Your router must be running in bridged mode, with no proper routing. That is an external gateway address. It si an EXTERNAL gateway address so it will NOT connect you to the router. The only way to deal with this is make sure you have the ISP login user name and address, plus any special protocol settings needed fro your ISP. Then you would need to default it using the tiny reset button on the back as described in the router manual. Before you even consider this, you can NOT set a static public IP address as it is controlled by your ISP from their DHCP servers. If you want that static you must subscribe extra to them for it. They may also want you to subscribe to an expensive business broadband service. Then they will instruct you on how you apply it, or the router will be set to only use a specific address they give. After that if you want an internal machine to act as a server publicly you may need to set that machine to a static IP address. This must be in the same subnet as the router DHCP, but oustide of the router DHCP pool of addresses. This may require you to carefully change the DHCP range. Other than that there is no reason to use a static IP.

Ok so look, all you do is factory reset your motorola route. So hold the reset button for a good 30-60 seconds;

-it will start to reboot once u let go of the reset button

-bring a a command window and type in "ipconfig" and hit enter

-it will show up a whole bunch of bs that u dont need at this time, scroll up until u find Default Gateway 192.168.something.1

-that will be your new default gateway adress and so u just go in your browser and type http://192.168.100.1/ (or whatever it shows up as for u)

u gotta make sure u do it as soon as it starts though while its configuring itself or you will miss the adress and pickup your static one given from the isp

the 98.204 address is what your router uses. 192.168.0.1 is the first device in your network, the router.

Put 192.169.0.1 into IE or whatever brower, then you will need a username and password (all the engineer shortcut passwords are on google).

You can set your machine, your printer and so on as anything from 192.168.0.2 to 254

The Default Gatway is not the correct IP. That IP is for the modem. You want the IP for the DHCP server.

if u want to give urself a LAN IP u don not need to go into ur router app

go into networks and sharing centre - click on your network connection - click on properties

- scroll down to internet protocol ipv4 (highlight it and click properties ) - and then select "use the following ip address" and fill in the blanks
