I'm currently a student at Northern Illinois University and I've been wondering... Is it illegal to look at porn on websites such as redtube, youjizz, etc on college wifi? Because a few weeks ago, I was able to look at porn, and now the videos won't load at all. It's just a blank screen. Does the school know what websites I'm on. And if so, is it possible that they blocked my access to it? I mean, it's not a big deal. I'm not an avid porn watcher, but I do like to browse from time to time. I just want to know if it's the website or my computer (I doubt it, I just got it and it's fully protected and everything) or the wifi? Please and Thank You!

It's not illegal as such, but it will no doubt breach the uni's IT regulations.

You're using THEIR network and bandwidth, which in turn 'throttles' the response time for other LEGIT users.

Remember, there could be dozens of other students also looking at porn, watching a movie (or whatever) at the same time as you.

Their view will be quite quite simple, genuine research will not be an issue, use it for anything else and you will violate campus IT rules.

You'll probably find sites like Facebook,Twitter etc, etc, are also blocked.

As with porn and movies, they can hardly be considered as 'essential' study material.

Of couse legal! But to watch too much porn is bad for your health. You'd better install some filter like Aobo Filter for Mac which has the features below:

Block unwanted web sites by URL or keywords

Record websites visited even in private browsing mode.

Password protected

Check it out

Read the college policy on rules for using college's equipment. Surf porn at home next time and save images/videos and bring them to college next time.

If porn is "Free Speech" then there is no such thing as "Hate Speech."
