I live in the boonies, with only dial-up service available, however I can go to certain eateries that provide free wireless access. I am able to get connected; I have a little green icon going, I am shown the signal strength and the connection speed. When I try to open internet explorer or even Yahoo messenger, nothing happens. I get a box that pops up asking me if I want to connect to the internet or a box with my dial-up info, asking for my password to connect. Any ideas on what I can do? Thanks!

Ask the owner of the ISP. Sometimes you need to use a user name and or password to use the wireless internet service. It will be free but you have to ask.

You may be close enough to someones home wireless network to pick up the signal, but if you don't have thier password you won't be able to connect. There are also commercial wireless networks you may be picking up such as Verizon Wireless, again, without an account password you will not be able to access that connection.
