WLAN = Wireless Local Area Network.

Wi-Fi means the Wireless protocol that it uses.

WLAN uses Wi-Fi to wirelessly connect computers in a network.

Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) service connects your laptop or Wi-Fi enabled device, such as an iPhone, enabling public wireless High Speed Internet access at speeds much faster than dial-up when you're within a 150-foot range of our growing number of public hot spots.

A wireless LAN or WLAN is a wireless local area network, which is the linking of two or more computers or devices without using wires. This gives users the mobility to move around within a broad coverage area and still be connected to the network.

And a device that picks up wi-fi uses WLAN.

WLAN is another name for Wireless LAN. It is where a series of computers connect to a wireless 'modem' as a network. This is just like connecting computers to a network via ethernet cords. But the ethernet cords are wireless signals.

You will need a Wireless device/card to be able to connect to a Wireless LAN network.

In simple words. Wi-Fi is used to connect to WLAN. WLAN needs Wi-Fi so that a computer can connect to the WLAN.

One is the parent and one is the child. WLAN is wireless local area network: a way for two or more devices to communicate wirelessly. Wi-Fi is a subset of WLAN. So is a cell phone, radio, satellite communications or anything else that does not uses wires for electronic communications. Note that the W in WLAN stands for wireless; it does not, nor ever has, stood for wired. Note that OTA television and radio (AM, FM) are not WLAN because that is only one-way communication.

There is no difference.
