I want to increase the range of my wifi on my laptop. I have read about the cantenna and all the other ones.... How well do the usb antennas with 7 or 10 dbi antennas on them work? If an USB antenna comes with a 2 dbi antenna - can I simplly unscrew it and put on a higher dbi antenna? (10 dbi for example?) Any other tips/tricks would be appreciated...
Thanks in advance...

Most USB antennas are soldered on the casing and ripping them off will destroy the connector. Have you considered a range extender between the two points or even booster antennas on the router? If you can find a USB device with a high gain antenna in the8-10db range, then it will make a big difference.

There are some nic's that you can screw on a higher gain antenna. I belive ornico nics allow you to do this. You will need to buy a special "pig tail" in order to do it.

802.11G remains extremely time-honored i think of. in case you probably did desire to enhance then you certainly would be forward to bypass with an 802.11N. even even with the undeniable fact that be certain your pc don't have already got it, examine the type form on Toshiba's website to ascertain. i in my view do no longer think of you will see lots difference in putting 2 adaptors on your device. would enhance problems. the only element i'd desire to ascertain it doing is including redundancy, meaning if one fails, the different would take its place.
