Hi Darren,

You could not connect 2 PCs with just a network cable. You would require a Network adapter as a connection medium to do so. Or, you could purchase a "crossed cable" which would be more helpful in this case. This cable acts as an input at one end, and output at the other. Simply saying, using this cable alone, you can connect the host PC to the client without a network adapter.

All the best!

hey,

if u have a network cable then connect the cable to both PC's network port. after that go to the LAN connection and go to the properties after right clicking on it. Over there select the Internet protocal (TCP/IP) and click on properties. On properties there is an option names IP adress separated by three dots. Just enter any three number each should have three digits. for example 192.168.190.1

after that another option that is Subnet Mask automatically activated with an adress. don't worry on it. At the end filll up the default gateway similar to the IP adress.

do same thing in the second computer but remember all the number should be same except the IP adress of the second one. No need to fill up DNS server keep these blank.

then share the file which u want to share to another PC.

After that

go to run command which is in the windows button.

type the IP adress of another computer example

\\192.168.190.1

then press ok

you can see all the shared file which u shared in another computer.

happy........

To connect PCs together you want a Network card

I belive your problem is that the cable you are using is a "straight through cable" which can connect computers to Routers or Hubs/Switches, however you wont be able to use these cables to connect one computer to another. For that you must use "cross over cables" which are exactly the same, but the wires are connected differently at each end.

Go to your computer supplier and ask for a cross-over cable.

you will need a crossover network cable for this... no need for hubs, router or switch. plug the two pc with the cable. then setup their tcp/ip

pc1 ip: 192.168.1.100

subnet:255.255.255.0

pc2 ip: 192.168.1.101

subnet: 255.255.255.0

*leave the gateway blank

ping each other

run "cmd"

in pc1, type "ping 192.168.1.101

in pc2, type "ping 192.168.1.100

if you get a reply then you successfully networked to pc.

if not there maybe a problem with the cables or the the lan ports.
