Question:
Loose Router Antenna on Lynksys WRT54G?
2010-01-12 17:25:15 UTC
Recently, my internet connection has been horrendously slow. Usually I get a DNS "cannot find server error" and other times, pages (especially Youtube videos) just refuse to load. I usually open a tab and go on to a fast loading site (Google!) to fix this problem. I think it may be because the right antenna is very loose and wiggly. I have tried "popping" it back in, that didn't do anything. I tried "screwing" it in, but that didn't work either. It won't come out completely either. How do I put this darn thing in? Is this the culprit of the internet problems? Do I need to get a new antenna?

If one antenna is loose, the other will still work. Even though the signal may be a bit weaker, it should still work with reasonable signal strength.

The only thing that may affect the signal is if the loose antenna has actually broken the wire inside, and is shorting out the signal altogether. In that case, it would be best to try and remove it.

I just checked my WRT54G, and the antennas do unscrew from the back. The plastic plug is snug on it, so after un-threading it, one has to pull a bit to get it off. Be sure to be turning the part closest to the router, not the antenna...

If I remember correctly the antennas don't screw on and off, its more like twist and pull (check the manual at linksys.com). If it is loose, you might be getting an inconsistent signal, just like if the cable is loose on your cable modem.

have you ever in addition to mght reset the cable modem field, when you consider that this would be inflicting the difficulty, if that doesnt paintings attempt a right away connection to a pc or computer and reboot, if that fails call your internet company
