How can i connect two laptops using wireless lan cards witout using an acess point?

The way we connect two computers using LAN cable ,can we do the same using two wireless LAN cards. Please help .Me and my friend have Intel PROset wireless lan cards fixed in our laptops.

firefox15 is right. XP's built in wireless service should allow you to connect this way with the default settings.
