Yes you can network Win98se, it will even do domain authentication.

The answer about the IP's is correct, 192.168.1.X, or you could use 10.1.1.X, both are private IP pools.

But even if you don't connect to the Internet, the easiest way is to get a router, set the pc's to obtain an address automatically and your off to the races.

One note. You must have all of the computers in the same workgroup or they won't see each other. You can name the workgroup under the network properties.

Well, first off, I'm not sure about running a network like that with 98se, I'm not sure the operating system can handle it. I'd consider getting a copy of Win Server 2000 or 2003 or better yet WinXP.

Secondly, I don't think a LAN can be set up with just a hub, you need a primary (server) computer to 'map' the network. The only thing a hub does is, more or less, connect things, it does not network. You need a server computer to do that.

If I were you, I would update one of the computers to WinXP and make it your network controller. Then, instead of a hub, I'd install a router, which is much more powerful than a hub. Install the router (I prefer Linksys) software on your XP machine. The router software will walk you through setting things up.

a hub is strictly for pc to pc communication. however if you are trying to get them on an internet connected lan you need a router connected to your modem. i have not worked with win98 in a long time, so i dont know if it is capable of networking. i would recommend win2000 pro on all pc's.

As you using a Hub to connect your PC's you need setup IP addresses on Each PC. Typically you can use 192.168.1.1, 192.168.1.2 ans so on.

Go to control panel then open Networks, then select TCP/IP properties, and put the ip address in there

I hope this will help you
