I am trying to get my WRT54G (Which is my gateway to my internet connection) to route all traffic on ports 80 & 443 to a server box running FoxyProxy to filter out what my children are getting on the internet. It hasn't been sucessful so far. If anyone has any suggestions on a way to route my traffic, it would be greatly appreciated. Currently, I have 2 desktops, 1 laptop, and 1 server. All are connected to the WRT54G. I can manually go to each PC and put in the proxy settings, but I was looking for a way to do it so that my children couln't bypass the settings, transparently I believe is the term for it. Thanks in advance.

I am not sure this can be done with your current network topology. You need a firewall at the front of your network to block all HTTP traffic except those from and to the proxy. You need this:

Internet --> firewall --> WRT54G --> server and PCs.

You need to get one more machine (with two LAN cards) for the firewall though. You can use one of your desk top that is not used by your kids. Alternatively, you can do this:

Internet --> server with firewall & proxy --> WRT54G --> PCs

You need one more LAN card in your server. However, your server can be vulnerable if not protected correctly.

I am trying to save you $$$ here. If you are rich, a better way is:

Internet --> firewall1 --> subnet1 with server & unrestricted PCs --> firewall2 --> subnet2 with restricted PC.

i like those solutions =) To the OP: someone is obstructing off them for a reason, in case you try to get round this block they could truthfully song down the computing gadget doing it and the time it changed into done - therefore telling them who did it. To something of the toddlers who responded: community admins do no longer understand something about the conceivable proxy servers accessible. Nope no longer a element easily one would not understand those hyperlinks you presented, what do community admins study about the web anyhow perfect? No way they can make an worry-free ACL make certain those are all blocked. Heck i'd be taken aback if community admins even knew what a proxy server changed into, only highschool youthful toddlers understand of them after all. this question and answer has made me smile I choose i ought to offer you factors for asking.

set the default gateway for the router to the foxyproxy server. it will forward all the traffic there.

most probably you might need to have 2 subnets, one for the entire router's network i.e. your children,other pc's other will be the n/w on which the router shall talk with the proxy server. proxy server shall be connected to the internet.

i hope this was not too trivial...
