You must know of which network u have using IPs. Only the network administrator will help you about this ping problem. Might be u r using wrong IPs and subnet masks. Check the default gateway of your network.

RUN CMD

IPCONFIG /ALL command tells ur all IPs related to each of your computer in the network.

There could be a firewall issue. If you are running windows XP SP2 or SP3 you can follow these directions to allow pinging.

Click on Start

Click on Control Panel

Click on Network and Internet Connections (or it might be labeled Network Connections)

Click on Network Connections

Right click on Local Area Connection and go to properties.

Click on the Advanced Tab

Click on Settings next to Windows Firewall

Click on the Advanced Tab

Click on Settings in the area labeled ICMP

Make sure the top check box is checked "Allow incoming echo requests."

Click Ok.

Make sure to make this change on both computers.

assuming that both computers are connected to the same switch/hub/wireless access point... and your network cards are working properly, then yes this could be a firewall issue. start with your physical connections first -- depending on your operating system, you might not even have an active firewall blocking ICMP (ping) yet.
