Windows 7 - Can't logon in to local admin account - you cannot log on because the logon method you are using is not allowed on this computer.

I am having a Windows Server 2003 R2 server having active directory. Users have different OS on their respective client machines (Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7). Out of them one user having Windows 7 tried to change the password, but according to him he failed to do so due to the complex password requirements. So he canceled and turned off his system. When he came back and tried to login in to the administrator account on his system, he was unable to do so. Following message was displayed: "You cannot log on because the logon method you are using is not allowed on this computer. Please see your network administrator for more information." Please note that the default administrator account is disabled on this laptop by default.

Other users having Windows 7 client machine are not facing any problem.

The system config is as follows:

Model: Dell Latitude E5520

Processor: Intel i7-2620M (2.70 GHz)

RAM: 8 GB DDR3

OS: Windows 7 Professional (64 bit)

I even tried to edit group policy in a domain by going to Computer configuration >> Windows Settings >> Security Settings >> Local Policies >> User Rights Assignments >> "Allow log on locally". I am seeing the group of which the user is already a member (cross checked in dsa.msc). Even then I separately added the user to see if it may work, but to no avail...

Then, there will be solutions supported:

Step 1. Access other PC which isn't locked, download the Windows Password Reset Deluxe ( windowspasswordreset.net ), install and run it.

Step 2. Burn a password reset disk. You can choose CD/DVD or USB.

Step 3. Connect the nearly created disk with the locked Dell laptop, config bios setting to make sure it boot from the password reset disk, reboot the computer.

Step 4. Choose the user that you forgot its password, click "reset" button to begin crack its password.

Step 5. A message box will pop up, just click "Yes", then the user's password will be cracked to blank.

Step 6. Disconnect the password reset disk, and restart Dell laptop. You will login Windows with a blank password.

Hope it helps you!

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. The only way to reset your windows password 100% safe is to use a software called Reset Password Pro.

The software allows you to create a boot-disk, that can be made on a CD/DVD or USB stick. The boot-disk can then be inserted into any locked machine, and it's a simple case of pressing reset. Here is their official site: http://www.resetwindowspass.com

So, you would higher take away the password. You can DIY a Windows password reset CD. There is an Windows password unlocker.ISO picture dossier incorporated within the home windows password unlocker. Burn the .ISO dossier onto a clean CD together with your favourite burners or use the freely burner incorporated in home windows password unlocker. With the newly created home windows password reset CD, you'll be able to reset home windows admin password with our erasing some thing else
