With Appletalk protocol, when a computer starts up, it sends out a broadcast to all computers to see if any computer has that same address. How is this different from DHCP?

These are 2 totally different objects. tcp/ip and appletalk are network communication protocols, apletalk is a very dated system. dhcp is a server protocol for issuing ip information automatically to client machines on a network.

When using DHCP the client initiates the process. It will send out a "DHCPDISCOVER." This is broadcasted throughout the network to find DCHP servers. Any DHCP server that hears this message will send the client a "DCHPOFFER." This holds information such as the ip address, leaser period, and domain name. If there are multiple DHCP servers the client may receive more than one offer. The client then evaluates all of the offers and then sends a "DHCPREQUEST" to the DCHP server that it chose as the best. The DCHP server then sends a DHCPACK to the client telling it that it will send the client all of its information. Thus the client will receive an IP address.

A ton of kids these days are trying hard to look "emo" because they think it looks cool. If someone is TRYING to look emo or whatever, they just come across as immature kids seeking attention. Emo is mostly just a clothing style involving dark colors and piercings. They do not have suicidal thoughts any more than other people. Emos are usually younger teens wanting to get attention. True goths actually follow the gothic religion and wear all black, with black hair. Never heard of juggalos! Scene is mostly just known for the huge hairstyles. Most punks like color. You're right about the mohawks and spikes. I have had many friends go through the "emo wannabe" phase, and so did I. And now that we're older we realize how dumb and immature we were. I've learned my lesson the hard way! Hope I helped. Have an awesome week

Apple talk is a protocol only usable by CPUs with an OS that supports Appletalk, and as the name implys is only avail from Apple. It is used for networking simular to the old NETBIOS. Most PCs will never have appletalk on them.

DHCP is a protocol universal to all computers that only sends out network configuration and has nothing to do with the operation of the network.

With DHCP you can manualy configure your settings, see http://www.dnsserverlist.org for manual configurations.

In DHCP, the PC sends out to GET an address, it doesn't have one until it gets assigned one in response,
