Firstly , the down and dirty solution to your problem is to get a 20 port switch. Enable file sharing and give both read+write permissions to the required folders.(method will vary for windows, i use linux ).

The better option is , well to set up a centralized file server(samba or NFS) and then go about giving specific controls to others.

Advantages :

1. Sooner or later , YOU WILL HAVE TO GO CENTRALIZED due to concurrency + update problems

2. YOU will SPEND A FORTUNE during that phase of data migration

3. File servers are available FREE !! . Also , you can ensure virtually unstallable server if you choose linux(free ones as well) . You will never face a downtime because of virus, unlike your windows clients.

4. SECURITY matters buddy ... 15 users sharing each other is fine now. Eventually, you will definitely want higher granularity of control over your users.

5 . You are better prepared for any future upgrades. (Cost will slash down by one-fifth for migration to newer technology as files are already organised ) .

Are you saying you've got the TCP/IP working but not the Windows sharing? Because what you wanted to do is the basics of Windows networking functions you don't need a corporate domain for that, a small business workgroup would do what you wanted.

You can bypass the occasional naming hiccups in Windows networking (SMB protocol, that is where Samba for Linux comes from not the Lion King warthog) by using \\ip.address.of.computer\sharename and skip the entire setup this way.

U can connect all PCs to a Cisco or Dlink 24 port switch directly and control that switch from any computer by telnet. Cisco ISO is that much powerfull. You can create taht much vlans on it and internet of any service provider with easy interface. Get control on every port to controls or restrictions on each port of hosts. CAT-5 cabling to be done within 100 meters for each computer.

this is easy. human beings pay motor vehicle mechanics via fact they're preserving your lives of their arms. in case you do no longer decide for to pay them for the artwork required to restoration your motor vehicle, they are going to commonly cases do a non everlasting restoration for extra value-effective. Doing so will in easy terms postpone the inevitable no longer do away with the prospect. we can't force desktops, using a motor vehicle with mechanical issues might properly be deadly; and no person desires to die in a motor vehicle crash that would have been prevented. desktops do no longer commonly reason existence or dying circumstances. autos in spite of the undeniable fact that, do.
