From a practical perspective (perhaps not the most academic one, if your presentation is to a seminar or some such) you might download and consult the Network Administrator's Handbook from the Linux Documentation Project. TOC and Index will help organize your data inhale.
Note that the coverage will not be from a Windows perspective, which may be a problem if that's what's required. But it will certainly be more conceptually clear than most of the Windows software or documentation which is very "Microsoft centric". Microsoft doesn't like to use anyone else's terminology, and attempts to make configuration simple for its users by concealing the horrid details from the user doing the configuration. The Wizards amd such, of course.
If the Redmond elves figured it all out and it works for a user, this will insulate said user from all the horridness, and save them much fear and trembling, but some users (often a large percentage of them) don't fit the elves' idea of the one true way to do things. In which case, said user is going to be an unhappy camper without some fundamental knowledge of networks, DNS / BIND, etc etc. Or a crib from one of the 3rd party how_to_make_Windows_work books.

Don't forget there's an upcoming concept of "Dynamic DNS" really helpful for VPN connections without a fixed External Ip address.
You can learn more about it at www.dyndns.org
Hope it helps
