Why does the iPad make my internet connection slow? How to block it?

Every time I turn on the wifi on my iPad 2 my wifi connection becomes very slow on other devices (Laptop and PS3). I have no idea why this happens but It only slows down whenever it's connected to my wifi. CenturyLink is my isp.. Is there anyway to block the iPad connection?! My modem is one supplied by centurylink (PK5001Z) I am very sure it isn't the modem/router because I had the same problem a while back with my iPhone (AT&T was my isp at the time)

Your Ipad is using a different band of wifi is why this happens. I'm guessing that you are using either N or G band normally, and your Ipad is using B. Whenever there are more than one type of wireless 2.4 Ghz band devices in use, all devices work at the slowest common rate. I don't know a lot about Ipads, but if you can switch the band that the Ipad is using to match the band on your access point there will be no slowdown.

Only turn on Wifi for the apparatus you are currently using.
