my westell router can't handle the game, the signal keeps getting dropped and the game gets disconnected all the time!

Really? That's very unusual - I have a Westell DSL modem as well and a 5Mbps connection with Bellsouth and have zero problems at all. It sounds like your service provider is monitoring your traffic and when they see a spike in your traffic, they are cutting off your service. You need to give them a call and tell them to stop cutting off your service.
Also, to help do traffic shaping, you may want to get the software called Net Limiter and set your incoming and outgoing data rates to no more than 70% of your total traffic rate. You should always keep about 30% of your total traffic bandwidth free. This usually keeps most ISPs happy.
And finally - just so you know what to do later on - I used to play WoW a long time ago - quite frankly I like the older, classic Everquest better, and a lot of my friends like Everquest 2 better than WoW. That may be just us, but just in case you do find yourself wanting something else to play with, these are good alternatives....

The router I have, D-Link DGL-4300, has excellent wireless capabilities, and I know it could run Warcraft just fine, though it is a rather pricey router.

try a pre-n router. they are supposed to provide much better coverage and signal strength. i hear good things about netgears dg834n and belkins n1 router however both n and pre-n technology are still much more expensive than 802.11g routers. depends how much you want to spend really. there's a generation of 'super g' or g+ routers that claim to provide 108 mbs compared to the usual 54mbs but you usually have to use their own wireless adaptors and the speed is never usually as fast as quoted
