Most likely this is due to some type of "protective block" feature in the AOL software. This protection is typically meant to protect children, but maybe blocking addresses for which it is not familiar.

Have you tried minimizing the aol browser and using internet explorer to get to yahoo?

I don't think so, thats not depend on internet connection or address (eg yahoo, hotmail etc)! Just try again and read carefully your's friend address, you may have some spelling mistake or you or your's friend may have some internet connection problem.
