Question:
I have cable internet now. Can i get DSL?
2013-03-27 15:06:25 UTC
I have a phone line so i should be able to get DSL right? Even though there arent any ports where i can plug in a modem or router....but anyways. And if someone is using the phone and im playing on my PS3, will my connection slow down? will the other person hear static on the phone? Im with Rogers cable internet and im thinking of switching to Teksavvy because of their abundant amount of monthly bandwith and pretty good speeds. And the price is great. But if someone can tell me what i need for DSL or if the guys from teksavvy will install everything i need for the DSL internet to work. Thank you!

OK - let keep is simple, stupid.

Cable is a dedicated line.

DSL may or may not be a dedicated line depending on who ur suppliers r and the service.

ADSL is not a dedicated line - it shares ur phone line.

when ur data shares ur phone line filters r placed on the phone lines to keep the data out of the phone.

phone b/w is about 125kbps, so if u have a std DSL speed of 1.5Mbps u won't notice it.

The upload speed however is a lot lower so uploads might be visibly affected if u r uploading files.

If speed vs cost fit ur need then it might be a good switch -- HOWEVER, cable is typically FAST. Mine is10 to 25 Mbps. I recently connected with a friend who had DSL - what a pain, so slow, but it might have been less than 1.5Mbps.

DSL modem plugs in to phone line,

just as your cable modem plugs in to cable line,

You Will Receive maybe 3 DSL filters for the phone line(s).

What is a DSL Filter?

Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) filters, also known as micro-filters, are small in-line devices sometimes required for DSL installations. They filter line interference to standard telephone equipment when phones share the same lines as DSL service. Not all setups require the use of a DSL filter, though they are often needed for each phone connection.

other the that pluging the modem in to phone line outlet and the DSL filters for the phone(s) setup is the SAME as cable internet..

i think your wanting ADSL (Asmeytric Digital Subscriber Line) DSL is much slower and wont be able to get good gameplay, yes you can switch from cable but unless youve looked at lower costs for cable you could be looking at a heafty bill if you haven't come up to your contract yet.

subscribe to a broadband supplier, they supply the modem, lots of them have a built-in routers which is ideal....no it not slow your computer when someones on he phone but you willneed adsl filters plugged into your phoneline socket because your internet connection will disconnect each time someone users the phone

speed (benefit - Cable): Cable boasts faster speed than DSL information superhighway in concept. regardless of if, cable does no longer consistently grant on the promise in well-known useful use. a number of the variations between DSL and cable modem originate no longer with the technologies itself yet quite with the provider provider. All different issues being equivalent, aspects like fee, reliability and high quality of client provider for setting up and upkeep subject concerns can selection heavily from one provider to the subsequent.
