My sister and I play League of Legends together all the time but lately Ive been getting these horrible lag/ping spikes.

Its usually at a steady 170 and then suddenly it'l go to 999 and stay like that for a few seconds, slowly returning to normal again. This only happens on my laptop though. We have the exact same laptops and hers gets no spikes at all.

Im not sure whats causing them, I have no other applications running, most unnecessary processes are off, and according to my antivirus my comp is clean. Can any one help?

We are both connected wirelessly as well, maybe thats broken on my comp? Ive tried reinstalling the game and restarting my comp but no luck and before now it only happened in the game now its happening with my normal browsing of the web as well...

First off I love league :) add me to your friends list if you want (DrizzLx), we play every night (my friends and I are average 1200-1600 Elo).

Now down to business. The lag spikes could be caused by a lot of different things. You didn't specify if you were playing in the same house. Obviously if you are on a different wifi connection than her yours could be a weak signal or bad router. You would need to contact your service provider to check signal strength.

If you are in the same house on the same connection:

This could be due to a firewall, downloads or uploads (such as a torrent) in the background, an interference in your room (yes I have heard of other electronic devices interfering with signals), or network drivers.

If y'all play right next to each other than its probably not the interference. I use avg anti virus and have no problems at all. If you are using something else try running league as administrator and allow it in your firewall settings. You can also try uninstalling your wireless network drivers and download the latest version from the manufacturer website.

Good luck. Add me in game and I will try and help you further by doing some research.

Ping is a laptop community device used to attempt no matter if a particular host is accessible throughout an IP community; it truly is likewise used to self attempt the community interface card of the laptop. it fairly works through sending ICMP “echo request” packets to the objective host and listening for ICMP “echo reaction” replies. Ping estimates the round-vacation time, often in milliseconds, and files any packet loss, and prints a statistical precis even as finished. when you're utilizing the relationship, like downloading or yet another laptop utilizing the same connection is downloading that is going to seriously influence your ping.. If the game server has alot of gamers on it, which will influence the ping also if the game servers Host now includes alot more advantageous servers than in the previous without upgrading their connection/and or servers will actually have the same influence.. also attempt a tracert on the server that may be sure no matter if that there is a issue on-route to the server

There are lots of things it could be...

id say most common would be:

-problem with your laptop (OS file/settings, cause by malware or corrupted in other ways)

-problem with the wireless adapter itself

-wireless 2/4ghz interference (something near you that is wireless or produces radio waves)

-the bandwidth you have is limited, due to buying lower end internet packages. You can check your internet speed at http://speedtest.net really you should probably have around like 8Mbps+ download. Anything below is kind of crappy, especially for multiple people.

The reason your would lag and your sister would, is because she is first in line from your routers dhcp. Like her local ip address is say 192.168.1.4 and yours is 192.168.1.5, and she would get priority over you because of it.

There isnt much you can do to change it, other then use static IPs and make yourself above her, but then it would be doing the same to her.
