I switched a couple years back from Charter to ATT Uverse and I haven't looked back. If Uverse is available to you, it beats Charter in costs and performance by several dollars.
I have 18mbs/down and 2mbs uploads never seen a slowdown. The TV is great and came with three tuners, the DVR (also with the package) allows you to record several channels at one time and replay them on any TV. If you don't have Uverse in your area then Charter wins.
Uverse is all fiber with copper for the connection to your home. Comes with a full 2wire Wireless router and installed.
Charter wasn't bad but the price kept on climbing on a continuous basis. Once Uverse came in the price dropped but still not as low as the Uverse package. ATT has had solid performance for us Charter had drop outs, not a lot but enough to be problematic.
I see and get constant adds from Charter to come back, even offered "special deals" problem there they all expire at 6 months into the "deal". ATT has had the same price since we installed it, with the exception of MY choice to upgrade from 10mbs to 18.
Hope that helps.
