I swear someone is using my Internet. I have websites in the history that ive never visited and nobody else is home. There not dirty sites, just not where I visit. Is it possible to gain access to my wifi service when I have a password?

Are you talking about the History on your computer, or are you checking the logs of the router?

If someone was hacking into your WiFi router, it would NOT leave history on your computer - the history would be on their computer. Any history on your computer means that your computer went there.

Do you have Logmein or remote desktop or any kind of remote access software on your machine?

Did you leave the machine unattended in a place where there are other people?

Regardless, make sure that you secure your router

How do I secure my router?

---------------------------

Step one is to read the manual that came with your router.

You need to set up a WEP, or better yet a WPA encryption on your wireless network so you are not leaving it open to all comers. WEP is weak security, only use WEP if you have a Nintendo or other device that doesn't support WPA

You log into your router using the a web browser, type 192.168.1.1 for a Cisco/Linksys router (for different brands of routers, this address will be different). You should have an admin password. If you have never set one, then it will be the default username (blank) and password admin

Go to the wireless setup portion of the controls, select WPA Personal, and enter a long passcode that you can remember. Write this down !! you will need it to log in from your wireless computers.

Consult the help screens of the administration interface for specifics or read the manual.

When you are done. change the router's admin password to something other than the default. Write this down!!

Also consider turning off SSID broadcasting, so your router doesn't declare itself as available to anyone within range (yes it can still be detected but it makes it a bit harder for someone to target it)

no, if you have a password to protect the wifi system, nobody can use it unless they have the password. The only way they could do this would be by hacking, but unless you have extremely good wifi connections, i'd be surprised if anybody were trying to hack into it. Also, if there are sites in your history, these cannot appear there simply by somebody hacking your wifi. They only go in your history if accessed by somebody on that particular computer. Perhaps, they are pop ups that have been blocked but still appeared in your history? Hope this helps :)

It is possible someone can hack into it and use it but most people wouldn't waste their time to do that. But it is possible.
