I was wondering if it is possible to track network traffic for the whole network from my computer, and how? I seem to be going over my limit and cannot find out why. This is why i need to know what is taking all the bandwidth up.

There are programs called "Sniffers" that will track all of the traffic on a "segment". If your network is all one segment ( no bridges, routers,or switches) you can download one of those and get general statistics. To count traffic on multiple segments you'd need a managed switch.

I have to warn you though, there is a lot of "maintenance" traffic on a typical segment. Without a pretty good understanding of TCP/IP the output will be pretty overwhelming.

Nope, you can't - simple logic...

Since routers are switches, you do not see all packets. The ONLY device that can see all packets are the routers, or other network devices like Linux firewalls. Only the devices that pass all the traffic have the ability to check or log any of the activity. Your computer does not even see all the network packets, it is impossible unless it is the "router" (not likely...)

If you are on an open wifi, shared key wifi, or shared network segment like a hub, run something like wireshark. Otherwise you might need to put a hub inline with the upstream port of your router (between the router and modem) and listen there, unelss your switch/router supports mirror ports.

you should use Wireshark to smell the community, yet it really is likely too complicated for you. ISA server also has some large equipment, yet i don't recognize in case you want to spend large coin for a server kit. what's your objective? Are you desirous to understand what components are getting used? community monitoring equipment will be what you search for, although many are business enterprise aspect and extremely intense priced. Others will be very complicated to apply or setup searching on what you're searching for. Are you spying/snooping on them? Nanny software or company huge brother programs are likely your brilliant wager, those will log universal projects by making use of the consumer. Symantec between others has some possibilities right here or verify or netnanny, and so on. and so on.

Go to 192.168.1.1 using address bar and you should see what is connected in the middle column
