Not sure why, but several weeks ago, my default gateway became the same as my DNS server, so now I can't check out my routers config/website, which I need to; I can only access my modems configuration/website. I'm not to experienced when it comes to networking, and the only thing that comes to mind is when I changed the default workgroup, but I changed it back to the original. Any help?

Best bet is to plug your PC directly into the DSL modem and have it configured for DHCP. You can check this by going to start, run, and type cmd. At the prompt type ipconfig /all this shows everything. Default Gateway, DNS, whether DHCP is enabled or not. If you are directly connected to the modem and nothing changed reboot your PC. You should then receive an IP from your ISP. Then do another ipconfig /all write down the info that comes up and enter this into your router.

FYI...The default gateway is where your PC goes to to reach anotther network such as the internet when it see's that the destination is not on your network. A DNS server is something that maps an IP address to a name such as www.google.com is the same as 209.85.173.104. DNS just makes things easier to remember vice remembering all those numbers.

Its hard to say the cause without knowing the topology of your network.

What you could do, though, is change your DNS server to a different one permanently or temporarily.

go: my network places -> view network connections

right click on >local area connections

goto: properties

click: internet protocol tcp/ip

click : Porperties

enter in your the static DNS you want to use
