here goes...

ABC Engineering has just landed a large contract and requires six workstations to be installed two floors up from the server. The managers are concerned that the new users will slow down the network by transferring large files to and from the server. You have been asked to create a document on the type of cabling you would recommend, and how it address each issue.

thats it... if anyone could help me i would be very thankful...

Since it is two floors what you need is Cat6 cables. However, if you are going to run the cable in the plenum environment you must buy a Cat6 plenum cable. If EMI is is around, then STP Cat6 cable(recommended). If the company want to save some money and still want to get highspeed rate the UDP Cat6 cable. The most popular is UTP because it is a lot cheaper than Plenum or STP.

I think you can go with what Nikki has suggested....but if you want faster connections go for fibre...that you know already...however faster speeds will keep your servers less occupied as downloads and uploads are going to take less time that you can convey to your managers. If you keep low speed connections then your servers will be busy all the time, Thats is why all this upgrading is going on everywhere.

Plenium is going to be costly affair that you need to check with your managers ? otherwise simple cat6 or cat 5e will do enough for the job.

Just about what cables you'd use???

How about high speed fibre optic cables used for internal data transmittal?

If you mean something else please message me.
