So, let me get this strait. Proxies make your computer anonymous, right? So if I downloaded stuff from torrents through a proxy would I still be able to get caught by RIAA or IRA or whoever else sue people who download stuff illegally (including my ISP)?
Thanks a lot!

In order to get the data from their computer to your computer ( and the other way around because it is P2P) you have to have a complete data path.

That path is open for all to see if they want to.

Proxies may say they can protect you, but in reality, a good hacker can find your path.

The latest news is that RIAA is giving up on suing individual users. They are trying to make your ISP cut off your Internet instead. The good news is that, so far this is not happening.

But be aware, when lawyers are involved, your rights and contracts mean nothing!

So what do you do?

The answer

If you are afraid of being caught - then don't download

If you can stand the strain - then don't sweat it - there are many targets out there - your chances of being nailed are pretty slim
