I would like to sync user accounts between different computers, so for example when I log in onto another computer within the same network all my files and settings get loaded. I'm going to guess I will need a version of Windows Server....let me know what version and how to set it up. Thanks

You don't really need that, and Windows Server licenses are very expensive!!

You can achieve something like that with free software called BT Sync. If your computers are on all the time, they will sync their files between each other, just share your whole profile.

With this, you will only sync the files in your history. You can't synch software between two computers. Even if you have Windows Server, or not, you'll have to separately install software on every computer.

The only advantage you have with Windows Server, is that you can add restrictions on accounts with group policies and that you don't need to create the user account on every computer you access. Whenever you log on, it checks your credentials on the server and applies settings on the PC.

Your better off with a nas then a server.... less money and does almost all thing you wanted. Alternatively you can setup a remote connection to your computer, or do the equally good idea of setting up the bt sync. As for the software thing servers can force install software onto computers. However, that can be a interesting process.
