My laptop got a virus, and we got someone to fix it. But I just got my laptop back, and he said he had to reformat the whole thing. I can't connect to my computer's wireless connection, and it comes up with this message. Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks and try to connect again. I have tried everything I can think of, I'm only fourteen so I guess that isn't a lot, lol. My parents tried to fix it but they couldn't either. Is there anything I have to download, or is there a website that I can get information off of? Thanks heaps for your help.

Since you can see your network, the router is probably in range. However you must configure your pc to link to your router. You must match the encryption type and preshare key as configured on the router onto your wireless configuration, and maybe enter MAC address in router address validation table. You must check your router's configuration for the exact way it was configured.

If you did not retain your router documentation you may have to reconfigure the settings on router first (and document them as you need them to configure pc).

Given you appear to have lost documentation, you may be best served by a reconfiguration of the router. Log onto router via a pc that is linked to router via wired link to do this.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, do both of the following:

Disable the Wireless Zero Configuration service on your computer. To do so:

Click Start, click Control Panel, click Administrative Tools, and then click Services.

Double-click the Wireless Zero Configuration service. On the General tab, click Stop. In the Startup type list, click Disabled, and then click OK.
