Speeds vary in what area you live in and how many others have to share the same exchange as you and also distance from the exchange just mentioned can also effect speed.

You get a lot of questions regarding how to 'boost' or 'speed up' an internet connection, and unless your computer dates back to Windows 98 then it's usually down to how much your paying for your internet which is kind of sad but everyone knows, it's all about money.

The only advise you can really be given that may help is talk to your internet provider. Don't get confused by what they say because a lot of staff at internet providers are pre-programmed to keep you on their side and keep you paying. Ask them what speeds are advertised and what speeds you are getting. They will be able to tell both answers, usually advertised speed is a little lower than actual speed but shouldn't differ too much, if it does then your paying too much for a service your not getting.

The art of getting the fastest speeds is by being patient and looking at the best deals and it's a long drop to be paying for your cancellation fee if your only a month into an 18 month contract.

There is nothing you can do at your end to speed it up, the 8mb limit is set at the telephone exchange by your provider its the fastest speed they have tested your line at that is showing as stable. This is quite common as the old telephone lines werent designed for data, back in the day there was no such thing as a modem or a router they were just for voice so we do well getting 8mb out of them. If you want faster you will have to look into a cable provider like virgin or bt fibre optics. sorry.

If 8MB is the maximum speed provided by TalkTalk then the best thing to do would be to delete any applications off your computer which are using a lot of CPU. Try opening task manager and see which 'process's' are using a lot of memory. Then go into control panel to remove them if you are not using them. You could also try a different browser such Google Chrome. also try disabling ad-dons in IE.

no, the router has very little to do with internet speed. The modem controls your max speed.

Nothing you can do at your end will increase speed. Speed is controlled by your provider. Or you could purchase a faster speed.

Well, this won't speed up your connection, but you could disable images and then webpages would load faster.
