Hi,
I have a problem, My Internet on my PC works fine, also i am able to connect to my internet wirelessly through my iPhone, so my internet works. Now my laptop just will not connect although it says i am connected, and i have an excellent signal strength and status is connected, Speed: 54Mbps. I still cannot surf. I think it may be a DNS issue or IP issue, i have Renewed my IP by using ipconfig /renew through cmd.

Have you tried getting windows to repair the wireless connection? If it is a DNS or IP issue, Windows should be able to resolve it. Also does your laptop have more than one wireless internet profile? If it does it could cause a conflict and cause your IP to not work. If your laptop has Windows Vista make sure your router has the suitable security I think it has to be WPA2. If none of this is useful connect your laptop through the LAN cable and then go to your device's and driver's and unistall it, restart your laptop and then re-install it. It worked for me. I also found when I had a DNS problem windows live messenger sign-in assistant helped me by giving me an error code in which I looked up. Hope any of this was useful lol =)

If you are actually obtaining the ip address automatically, it has to be a machine setting. Right click your wireless connection and select properties. Then select tcp/ip properties. Ensure that all the settings are for obtain automatically. If DNS is not set to auto you can not browse. In Internet Explorer go to tools/internet options/ connections and ensure that never dial is turned on. Then in lan check that ALL the check boxes are turned off.

Try refreshing the system by turning everything, including the router, off. Then turn the router back on,but connect the laptop first. If you still have a problem, open Internet explorer. Then under the "Tools" menu select "Diagnose connection problems" & allow Windows to attempt to correct the problem. If the matter is still not resolved you will have the option to view a report of the exact nature.Take it from there or repost on here.Good luck!!

Try checking your firewall or what ever AntiVirus/Spyware software you might have and check if its blocking your internet traffic (Usually known as 'Panic Switch'), if it is then just allow traffic. If that isnt the problem then all i can suggest is to turn your router off and all connections from your laptop, turn on router and make a new Wired Connection using an ethernet cable... if this allows your computer to surf then change it to wireless.

Hope this helps.

well what you can do is disable the wireless and try to powercycle the modem and the router you have to do the modem first so you would shut down all comuters then unplug router and rest modem frm the back unless u have the rest button on the front of the modem then let it boot up for 3 sec then plug in the router turn on only ur computer and enable ur wireless card and see if it will let you connect now is this a open network or secured?

Which operating system are you using? Which firewall?

If you have Windows XP and use Zonealarm as a firewall, a recent Windows update KB951748 breaks internet connectivity; Zonealarm has issued a solution

Original KB951748

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951748

Solution:

http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/free/pressReleases/2008/LossOfInternetAccessIssue.html

If this doesn't apply to you, as a last resort you could try using WinSock XP Fix

free here

http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/WinSock_XP_Fix/winsockxpfix.html

On my laptop I had no option but to uninstall Zonealarm and uninstall the hotfix - good luck.

make sure your wireless is turned on and then if your on xp right click my computer and right click manage...open services and applications the services scroll down the bottom to wzc wireless zero configuration and start, it if its started the stop and start....goto you network connections and right click the wireless connection and goto properties and then advanced and tick the box allow windows to manage my wireless and you can then try and connect to your wireless in the taskbar.

if your on vista there has been a problem with some sevices losing connectivity and there is a download from microsoft

I had this problem. Assuming you use Windows Internet Explorer, try reinstalling it simply by choosing "Tools" from your browser toolbar; then choose "Internet Options", choose "Advanced" then towards the bottom of the window choose the option "Reset Internet Explorer Settings". Then let it guide you through. This fixed it for me. Sorry, can't help if you're using something other than Windows Internet Explorer.

Turn off your modem and back on again, finally restart your computer. This will refresh the ip or flush it i should say.
