How can i reset my Local Area Connection? Odd, Pc not receiving internet signal but labtop is...(wirelessly)?

Ok guys, i use a Netgear Wireless Router G, and my internet was working fine. Then i decided to disconnect the router for a little while since i had not done so in a while and i do so regularly, then next thing you know when i connect it again it brings up a message that says "Connection Limited or No Connectivity" i thought it was Zone Alarm Anti Virus that somehow did this so i uninstalled it and same message came up. The odd thing is i have a labtop and IT RECEIVES THE WIRELESS SIGNAL PERFECTLY AND I BROWSE THE WEB ON IT PERFECTLY
the only problem is with the internet on my PC...i have a ethernet cable from the back of the router to the back of my PC, that same setup for years and this is the first time this happens....
i have tried everything and the same message comes up "Limited or No Connectivity"...is there a way i can reset my internet connection or something or the communication between the PC and the router?(i have tried resetting the router to no avail)

first unplug power to router for 30 seconds along with restarting your pc see if that helps..



if not, in command prompt



ipconfig -release

ipconfig -renew

make sure automatically obtain ip is checked in tcp/ip settings

ping www.yahoo.com and see if it can see the page

if that doesn't work ping 127.0.0.1 to determine if your tcp/ip stack is working correctly. If you receive no packets on the loopback test (127xxx) then reinstall the tcp/ip stack..

Turn off all your equipment and bring them up in this order:



#1 DSL/CABLE modem - wait until the modem has a link light with the network before powering up the router.



#2 Router (if applicable) - wait until the router has a link light



#3 PC's and/or wireless enabled laptops, etc.



* this way the modem receives the proper information from the ISP. The router will get the IP information from the modem via the WAN port. Then the DHCP server in the router can start handing out IP addresses via the LAN ports.

When a message of : limited or low connectivity appears it is normally a provider issue not a PC issue .



Now if I was you before calling your internet provider I will try

3 things :



Disconnect the cable- modem, the router (do not reset).

Wait for 10 minutes.



Reconnect your modem -, your router. cable .

Go to to : network connections

right click on your LAN adapter and select repair.



If the signal comes back with more strenght then you are fine. If it is still low , call your provider.



Make sure you scan for trojans before . Trojans can reduce connectivity as they take control of your PC remotely.

You can go to Network Connections in Control panel and disable and re-enable the interface. The message you describe just means the ethernet doesnt have an IP address..



Resetting router to factory as already mentioned would be a good course of action after all else fails.



ADDED: Also remember a case in my own work, where mcafee/zonealarm fire wall was blocking DHCP requests (IP)

It's hard to diagnose without really seeing it and taking a few steps. Look in the documentation for the way to reset the router.



By the way, why do you feel you need to disconnect the router at all?

There is a small hole on the back of the router, put a pen tip in it for about 10 seconds, and reboot your router.
