why is the wire speed of my internet only 8mbps?

I have been using wireless internet but yeaserday I decided to wire my laptop (on win xp) to the router so im using a wired and wireless connection at the sametime. but in "network connections" when I click on the wired connection icon and go into the status it says the speed is only 8mbps I thought wired was meant to be 100mbps?

The 8mbps is the speed of your connection through your ISP, the 100mbps is the theoretical bandwidth limit of your controller card or chip in your computer.

Only 100mbps if your NIC is 100. Perhaps your NIC on your laptop is 10 or the router is 10. Most likely the setting on your NIC is set to 10 and perhaps half duplex.

try these steps



>disable wireless connection and powercycle router and check the lan speed if still same then

>rt click on lan icon and select prop

>click on configure button and then advanced option

>u'll see prop and value boxes and under prop->u'll ve speed and duplex and change value to 100 full duplex
