Hi,
I have two other people that connect to the same wireless router. If I set up a static IP address using all of my computer's configurations, will their computers connect to the internet without needing their settings messed with, or do I have to configure EVERY computer just right to connect to it?

You can set your computers IP to a static IP and not affect other computers on the local Network.

Each time a computer is restarted it will issued a new IP by the router and the router checks to make sure it is an unused IP before it issues it.

So, for example, if you set your computers IP to 192.168.0.101 the Router won't issue that to any computers that aren't set to static. It will give them the next in line which would be 192.168.0.102 then the third would get 192.168.0.103. It's a first come first serve kind of thing.

Anyways I think that was what you were asking and hope it helps.

You should not use a static IP address on any of the systems unless your setting up an internet server that you want others to have access to from off the internet or unless your setting up a "server" inside your network.

Use DCHP on all workstations/non-servers. The router/home gateway has a DCHP server that will handle issuing the IP addresses/etc information to the default setup for most workstations via their dchp clients.

You can safely mix dynamic and static IP addresses by going into the DCHP server on the router and excluding the static IP address(es) from the available pool of IP addresses.

by way of fact the 1st respondent suggested, in case you utilize that answer your DHCP "lease" will expire and you will have an IP conflict if the person that is been assigned to now could be on the community. At a volatile environment like a school campus the lease is likey to be very short. that is going to likely be messy. a greater useful answer is to easily assign a 2d IP handle on your NIC. basically the 1st handle can use DHCP so set the college up as that occasion. Then click on progressed and set up a 2d occasion it is the static settings you utilize at abode. Packets bypass out "the two" interfaces, yet basically one is stay at any given time, so it works advantageous.

yes..

if their computers can connect to the internet with dynamic IP they still can even if you change yours with static, as long as you don't use the same IP address as the ones on the wireless router..

Most home networks do not use static IPs, but either way, no, everyone using that router will be using the same IP anyway so it wouldn't affect them.
