You should be able to go into your computer's network and sharing centers and be able to restrict access to your computer via network except by specific users/mac addresses.

A Mac address is a unique 16bit hexadecimal code for each wired and wireless network interface card. If you can the network sharing area on your computer, you can then go to your laptop (assuming it's windows based) go to Start -> Command Line (sometime you can just type cmd into the start or run menu and it will open it when you press enter) then type in ipconfig - this will list your mac addresses for the computer.

From there you should be able to use that address to set it as an allowable computer to access your desktop.

For future posts, indicate operating systems and router types, as they have different features and options.

Good luck.

Windows should permit you to set up a network that includes only your two computers. give it a name and a good password, then turn on your firewall.

the 'network' that the router maintains is separate and should have a completely different name.

properly in case your brother is a complicated consumer, he can actual pretend the MAC address, there for bypassing MAC exclusion... i have executed it to avert tracing when I hack WEP. the premiere answer is to reset the safe practices on the router. the most preserve code that maximum routers help is WPA2, and that i believe the code should be 16 digits. it would want to be some thing, or you may have the router immediately generate one and it would want to avert it to a txt report. -to attempt this, you may want to log into the router. i might want to imagine you recognize a thanks to attempt this in case you verify the present community and if so bypass some thing else of this bullet, yet when no longer proceed. Open up any information superhighway browser and form contained in the gate way address. in case you don't recognize the gateway address double click the prompt icon (in case your making use of abode windows default prompt manager and by no ability one from the your prompt adaptor card.) on the decrease precise nook of the exhibit screen and bypass to help tab. it is going to inform you the gateway. once you form that in, it is going to instantaneous you to log in, default consumer might want to be admin and the password might want to also be admin. each and every each and every now and then there is no longer a password in any respect. relies upon on form. i imagine there is no longer a password on D-link. -once your in, the set-up is diverse by making use of router, yet regularly look in some thing with "prompt" "safe practices" or "settings" or all of them. seek for a container with the safe practices code and choose the form "WPA 2" and form in a password, or a key-word to immediately make one for you. -keep in mind THE CODE or reserve it! -connect all the pcs you want to making use of this new code. at the same time as your brother (or his gf) attempt to log in, it received't provide them get entry to.
