Ordered domain name from godaddy.
Have external static IP through wireless router
Also have internal static IP on computer

I went to godaddy in the manage domain section and put changed the A recorder to the internal IP
however, nothing happens. I need the domain name and static ip in order to use Houdini Esq. and be able to access my info from anywhere....

Is there anyone who is familiar? Any other steps i need to take.

Thanks

Your pretty close.

You want to point the A record to the external static address. This is the address the outside world will hit. You have to make a 1 to 1 Nat to the static address of the computer. If your router doesn't support this, you can't move forward. You probably also want to make a port forward/trigger to the static internal address as well (tcp port 80)

I'd highly recommend not making the web server wireless. You'll get very slow resolution of the webpage from anywhere outside your network (home lan).

I'm not familiar with GoDaddy, but I thought the internal IP address was totally invisible and irrelevant past the router. I would think you'd let GoDaddy know about the External IP address and let the router deal with the internal one.

Hope that helps.

If you have a static IP address at home, you need to update the DNS information of your domain and point it to this static IP address. Static IP addresses which you use on your own network are not routeable on the internet, you need to enter your static, internet IP address in your DNS control panel. In your router you will need to forward the required ports to the static, private IP address of your computer. For example, for web traffic you will need to forward port 80 to your computer.
