Hi, I have a D-Link ADSL2+ router. Only one ethernet port is provided with it. Now I got a hub but when I connect both computers with the IPs assigned to me by ISP i get a IP conflict. I have tried using different IP address but then internet does not work.

sorry to have to say this, but you are doing this all wrong!

you don't use the ISP IP address on 2 computers. That IP address is for the adsl2+ modem, not your computers.

There may be one way to use what you have instead of buying a new switch (below) I am assuming you are using Windows XP.

1. On the computers, Click Start

2. Click Connect to

3. Click Show all connections

4. Under LAN, right click your network card and click properties

5. Click TCP/IP in the selection box

6. Click Properties

7. Select "Obtain IP Address Automatically" and "Obtain DNS Automatically"

8. Click Apply

If this still doesn't work, What you need to do is get a D-Link ADSL2+ Router + 4 Port Ethernet switch.

This way you don't need a hub and the router will automatically assign IP address's to your computers. It doesn't matter if it is a wireless router or not, just turn the wireless feature off and use the Ethernet.

Here is an example of what you need:

Hope this helps

From what I see your are giving the same IP address you got from the ISP to both computers & this is not correct, the ISP gave you one IP to enter it manually for one computer to work at a time, both computers can not be work on the same IP in the same time, but there is a solution to this that you use a router instead of the hub, the router have one internet connection that distribute the internet to the lan side of the router, you must get a router that is work with your ISP and gave it the IP information you have to that internet port & activate the DCHP on lan ports and set the computers to automatically get the IP's then both computers will work.

Whoever you're talking to is an fool. The term "ethernet splitter" will make even the main amateur of community engineers pull a extreme facepalm. you could no longer basically chop up a connection in that way. you like a multi-port device (router/change). that is a horrendous answer, as you would be putting citizens on your inner community devoid of any protection to section the site visitors. it would be precisely comparable to easily giving all of us the password.
