In a network, when transfering data between two computers, it is possible that unwanted users may intervene and get the data....so the data to be sent is encapsulated in the packet and attached with header and some identity which is known by only the two computers ( transmitter and receiver) in the network,,,,,this private netwok which is virtual to others is called VPN

it is used send data from on place to another in a secured way

so that data cannot be lost trapped or missused

This is mostly used for the private for the transfer of data
