If your asking can you use a second router to provide a desktop with an Ethernet connection taken yes. However, this would need to be a repeater if it's not directly connected to the main router. Check Out a dd-wrt router (special firmware) on eBay or whatever. You can easily run that repeater and have it all on the same network. Google "dd-wrt repeater" and see if that solves your problem.

The correct item to use is a switch. They are so simple to use that they usually don't have any settings to set. Switches (or hubs) are essentially the way that computers are connected together in an Ethernet LAN by wire. A home router that has multiple LAN ports on it, has a switch inside it that is splitting that one port into many. If you have one router already, then it will do all its usual tricks through add-on switches without any issue because they are essentially invisible to the network devices. In a lot of cases, combining network signals with a switch can save money and boost network performance.

Not with an 'off-the-shelf' router.
