I googled all over, I still couldn't find any answer.
Okay,
I am on a company network. Some computers can get ping reply and browse to internet no problem
But I found few computers that have problem only on pinging ! I only got the ping header (for example if I ping www.yahoo.ocm, I would get 72.30.38.140), but I still got request timed out.

My question is..

How can I make it ping reply work normally?

FYI

1. I can ping LAN ip and 127.0.0.1 but not internet ip or name, yet I can browse or surf
3. I did ipconfig/renew and I also did ipconfig/flushdns, still no good.
4. Network recovery turned on, still no good.
5. firewall off and on, tried both, not working for some computers (2 or 3)
6. I tried inputting dns, gateway manually, same thing, no request timed out
7. No virus or spyware.
8. All pcs are on same subnet and on DHCP. I don't think there is a need to do something on the server/router end.

Any suggestion that I can try?

Multiple pings to a public server can be classified by the server as an DOS attack so after the first ping the server stops responding.

Do it to the wrong server and your IP will get blacklisted

The other main possibility is your Timeout is set too low. try

ping -w 400 pingtest.net

Increase the 400 to a max of 1000 (1 sec) to see if thats your problem

Internal pings are not restricted

If you want to test ping performance use your browser and go to pingtest.net and run their test. It gives more info than just pinging.

Edit:

Why are you worried? The ping is only a very basic connectivity test for use when other services are not working and they obviously are.

Have you checked your anti-virus software?

One other check that the ping. executable on them is not corrupted

A good registry cleaner I use is CCleaner. It's a reliable tool to get rid of worms, trojams, malwares and viruses that affect your pc performances. Free download here http://bitly.com/UrALbd

You guys using a Cisco ASA or PIX? They will sometimes block outbount ICMP (ping).

The fact that some can ping and others cant is interesting too. I would need to see an ipconfig /all of a working machine and one of a non working.

If yes to the ASA, make sure you have it set up to permit ICMP traffic out.

Ping is turned off on your network. Pinging yourself doesn't count.

You're behind a proxy that does not allow you to ping any address on the internet, but catches your browsing requests and serves them from its own cache.

pinging 127.0.0.1 is pointless as it's a virtual adapter, it will always reply to pings even if you're not connected to any physical network.
