I have currently installed a new Linux Ubuntu 10.10 on my eMachines E525 laptop. And when I try wireless connection to my wireless network, it shows that there is no firmware. What is firmware? Is it compatible with the newest Apple Airport which is working fine, what do i have to find like names/ numbers to activate it? Please give a simple instruction to connect my laptop. My laptops wireless reciever is Atheros, but I don't know what version.

In electronics and computing, firmware is a term often used to denote the fixed, usually rather small, programs and/or data structures that internally control various electronic devices. Typical examples of devices containing firmware range from end-user products such as remote controls or calculators, through computer parts and devices like hard disks, keyboards, TFT screens or memory cards, all the way to scientific instrumentation and industrial robotics. Also more complex consumer devices, such as mobile phones, digital cameras, synthesizers, etc., contain firmware to enable the device's basic operation as well as implementing higher-level functions.

There are no strict boundaries between firmware and software, as both are quite loose descriptive terms. However, the term firmware was originally coined in order to contrast to higher level software which could be changed without replacing a hardware component, and firmware is typically involved with very basic low-level operations without which a device would be completely non-functional. Firmware is also a relative term, as most embedded devices contain firmware at more than one level. Subsystems such as CPUs, flash chips, communication controllers, LCD modules, and so on, have their own (usually fixed) program code and/or microcode, regarded as "part of the hardware" by the higher-level(s) firmware.

The driver for your wireless network adapter is simply not installed. Wireless networking is often an issue with Linux. If you can find the right driver for your wireless network adapter, then you are saved. If not, then you will have to do without wireless networking as Linux will not be able to use your wireless network adapter properly.

i might verify which you dont have any viruses you're able to join some botnet or something and additionally ask the cable/information superhighway company for data. Like what grew to become into downloaded and while and with the help of what MAC handle. in keeping with possibility merely swap information superhighway carriers. And ultimately verify your community setup in keeping with possibility somebody complicated under pressure out themselves into your community. yet as far because of the fact the instantaneous community, as long as you have a competent password and WPA2 encryption set you relatively shouldn't see any issues. the probability that some one hacks your community is like narrow to none and in case you hold changing the password each week then they might merely supply up and hack a much less secured community. additionally dont supply your password to all of us no longer even pals or buddies.
